After our opening ritual
and once the sun makes its way underneath the
horizon, everyone is invited to the lovely on-site meadow to lay on the
grass (or the blankets you bring) so we can all look at the stars together.
Since the dawn of humanity, people have gathered
together under the stars
for wisdom,
enlightenment and to help them understand how our world works.
These days, we usually only gather to look at the stars when we're with our
immediate family and/or lovers. Please join us so that we might
connect
with each other and the
skies as a community. Those of you with knowledge
of the stars- please come and share that knowledge. Tellers of ancient
mythologies- please come and share those tales. Do you like to create new
constellations and tell new stories? Please come
and share!
Astrologers, astronomers,
star-gazers, people who just enjoy company- all
are welcome. Please extinguish all artificial light once you find your spot
in the meadow- we will make sure all cacti or other hazards are well
marked. Join us for our first Community Stargazing-
the perfect thing to do
before turning
in for rest.
Friday, August 6th...
--- Workshops
(9:30am to 5pm)
--- Dionysian Ceremony (7:30pm) ++
Friday, before the Fantasia Fling Masquerade Dance and Costume Contest, all
are welcome at the Pavilion to join us for a Dionysian Ceremony.
What's a Dionysian Ceremony? Excellent question!
In this ceremony, we will
hone our
five senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell and taste) and celebrate
the gifts that the gods have given each of us. We will welcome also the
Greek god Dionysus and his wisdom to teach and/or remind us
of the sacred
beauty that surrounds
us- and that is within us. Dionysus sometimes gets a
bad rap. We won't be working the drunken god of debauchery sometimes
portrayed in popular media throughout the centuries. We will be focusing on
Dionysus' gifts of the harvest, and his unique connection with
humanity. He
and Demeter were the
gods from the Greek pantheon that had something in
common with humanity. They experience great loss and the seasons affect
them in ways the other immortals aren't privy to. Dionysus counteracted his
losses with great celebrations and by being the
patron of theater, the god
of fertility
and the god of the vine. Samples of natures bounty will be
experienced during the ceremony, but please eat before- the samples that
will be offered are meant to nourish your spirit, not sate your
hunger. Come
ready for the Fling
as the end of the Ceremony is the beginning of the
dance.
